Metamorphasis explores the fear of change and the societal pressure over women to always be sweet and delicate. The ripped wing represents the idea the hard work that comes with change and that change is not always seen as positive societally. The societal pressure also is ripping her apart. The moth, while also resembling change, is overlooked compared to the butterfly exemplifying that she feels different than the butterfly.
